But where should you visit in Cyprus, what should you see, what activities should you do? We tell you everything you need to know to make the most of Cyprus during your stay.

If you’d like to go back in time by visiting historical sites, you will be served in Cyprus! Do you know what to visit in Cyprus if you are a history buff? Paphos is a popular seaside resort for beach lovers, with its archaeological park, which takes you on a trip into antiquity. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient town of Nea Paphos invites you to explore its acropolis, photograph its odeon, and marvel at the splendid mosaics of its Roman villas. Paphos is also, above all, the place where Aphrodite is said to have been born. It is, indeed, in the surroundings of the city that Petra tou Romiou is located — the mythical rock where the Goddess of Love came out of the foam.

Capital of Cyprus, Nicosia is also a fascinating city. From Roman ruins, to Venetian walls and Byzantine churches, Nicosia's old town is full of historical sites that will take you from one era to another. Among the must-see sights are the ancient Cathedral of Saint Sophia, which has become a mosque, and the Laiki Yitonia district. But Nicosia is also full of exciting museums, such as the incredible Cyprus Archaeological Museum and the Levantis Museum, which traces the history of the city.

What could be more emblematic of Cyprus than the Green Line in Nicosia? A visible demarcation of the separation of the island between the Turkish and Greek borders, this wall was built in 1974 during the Turkish invasion.

Troodos Treks

So, what should you see in Cyprus if you are a nature lover? The Troodos massif, of course! An interesting stopover between Nicosia and Paphos, the Troodos combines visits to historical sites with breath-taking panoramas. Dominated by Mount Olympus, this mountain range in the heart of the island hides 9 Byzantine churches, classified as UNESCO heritage sites. You will be able to travel through the valleys surrounding the Troodos, stopping into its small, traditional villages to go back in time. Here, nature is queen. With more than 40 km of marked trails, the Troodos is a paradise for hikers. You will cross huge, black pine forests, brooks, and waterfalls, all culminating in a stunning view of the mountains — the best choice for a sporty and adventurous holiday in Cyprus!

Mount Olympus, the highest point of the Troodos, is at an altitude of 1,951 m and has a small ski resort, open from January to March.

But, between all these historical sites and walks through the Troodos, you will need to rest. What better way to do that in Cyprus than to sunbathe on the beach? The Island of Aphrodite is full of small, secret coves and beautiful stretches of sand or pebble beaches. Why not take a dip in the warm waters of the Mediterranean? Between Paphos and Limassol, you can pretend to be a goddess on the beach of Aphrodite or jet-ski in front of the pebble beach of Pissouri. Further west, you can gild the pill on the black sand of Governor's Beach or on the strange grey-green sand of Finikoudes Beach in Larnaca Bay.

What’s more, the most picturesque beaches are on the Cape Greco side. Take advantage of a stay in the area to enjoy a boat trip and explore its sea caves!

Finally, if you like turtles, don't miss the Bay of Lara, north of Paphos. This white, sandy beach is, indeed, a nesting place for turtles. Whether you like historical sites, nature, or just relaxing on the beach, Cyprus has something for everyone, with a wide range of activities to choose from. So, what are you waiting for?
